Join us for the first of a series of free “brown bag” lectures at the Maryland War Memorial Building. Bring your lunch and take in an exploration of World War I history from 12:15PM until 12:45PM, with an optional tour of the historic venue to follow.
This presentation will detail the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914 – the event which touched off the First World War. Who was assassin Gavrilo Princip, and why did he choose to kill the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary? These and more questions will be explored.
The Maryland War Memorial Building was opened in 1925 as a monument to those Marylanders who died in the service of their country during the First World War.
